Welcome Letter
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you how excited I am to be working with your child this school year. Fourth grade offers new subjects (Alabama History) and new challenges in all other subject areas.
A main goal is to help your child develop a love of learning. This attitude will serve your child in all areas of life and allow positive learning experiences to be engaging and transforming. I have high expectations for all of my students. I believe that all students can be successful provided the right learning environment. My goal is to establish a safe, caring, trusting and learning environment where students are free to explore and engage in problem based learning. A positive learning environment is key to a successful year for your child. I want you to know I am committed to helping your child lean and grow both as students and as young people.
Your child will receive the best education when you and our dedicated teachers work as a team. It's your enthusiasm, support and involvement that inspires children to do their best as well as my ability to teach what they need to learn. Working as a teacher, we can accomplish great things this year. Please, assist me in making sure your child is prepared for class each day by monitoring his or her progress and encourage positive study habits at home. This website and our class calendar are great resources for you to stay informed about new information and class events. INOW information can be found at this website: https://iiod.ssts.com/default.htm.
The INOW website is a unique website for our school that will allow you to go online and see your child's grades and homework information. This information is updated daily and will be the most up to date way to find out information about your child. I have also included our class agenda on the News and Events page for you to see what we are doing in class each week as well as listed homework assignments in case your child wants to work ahead, or if he/she is absent. The homework policy for our class is that each student must make up missed tests and assignments within 7 days of missed work. I will often have a "working lunch" to assist students who have been absent if needed to catch up on class content.
Communication is another big part of having a successful year of learning. I like to communicate with you on a regular basis through emails, phone calls, this website and newsletters. I welcome the opportunity to talk with you about any concerns or questions you may have. You may stop by during office hours or contact me to set up an appointment that would be convenient for you. Students are also welcome to contact me at anytime to ask questions, arrange for extra help if needed, etc. My door is always open.
I am excited to be working with you and your child this school year and look forward to helping them meet the challenges of 4th grade!

Recently our school has considered implementing a BYOD program, and we would like to know how you as a parent/guardian feel about this program. I would be greatly appreciate if you took a few minutes to complete the survey and provide your thoughts and comments on this endeavor. This survey is being taken in every classroom of our school.
If you are not familiar with BYOD check out this article to learn more about the program. There are many more articles on BYOD and I encourage to conduct your own research.
